A blast at a mine in eastern Ukraine killed at least two workers and left 10 more missing, according to the state’s health and safety committee.
A commission led by Coal Industry Minister Viktor Poltavets has been set up to investigate the tragedy at the state-run O.O.Sochynskoho coal mine, the committee said.
Rescuers were searching for the 10 missing miners in Kiev, the committee said. A total of 51 workers were at the site when the accident happened on Monday at 10:15am Kiev time at a depth of 1,250m (4,100ft), according to the committee. Thirty-eight workers reached the surface themselves.
Production at the mine has stopped, the committee said.
