The Indian Government could introduce a grading system to legislate mineral-bearing areas that have a high percentage of illegal mining.

A senior official from the ministry said that states need to do more to use satellite imagery sourced from remote sensing organisations to curb illegal mining, reports India’s Business Standard.

The official told the newspaper that individual states will need to develop reliable mechanisms for the collection and monitoring of data regarding the price of various minerals.
