Union Calls for Improved Safety Measures at SA Mines

South Africa's National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has asked the country's mining industry to step-up safety efforts following the death of seven mine workers in three separate incidents.

Earlier this week Aquarius Platinum confirmed the death of five workers at its Marikana mine in Rustenburg due to a ground fall.

AngloGold Ashanti also confirmed the death of a worker at its Tau Lekoa mine in North West province.

A mine owned by Impala Platinum reported a fatality owing to a ground-fall accident.

The NUM has called for intervention from the state and the mining industry into the deaths.
